Psychological & Psychoeducational Testing

Psychological & Psychoeducational Evaluations

These evaluations include a combination of clinical interview, written questionnaires completed by the child/adolescent, parents and sometimes teachers and others, and use of a variety of standardized measures in three or more one-on-one appointments with your child or adolescent. Some psychological evaluations focus on academic concerns, difficulties with distractibility and attention, or needs for accommodations during testing. Other evaluations focus on clarifying the reasons for difficulties in school or in relationships and evaluate mood and reasoning with goals of establishing a diagnosis and recommendations for treatment.

Psychological and psychoeducational testing

Depending upon the individual concerns and questions to be answered by the evaluation, testing may include measures of:

  • Cognitive ability
  • Academic achievement and learning progress
  • Attention and executive functioning
  • Visual and auditory information processing
  • Problem solving strategies
  • Motor and visual perceptual abilities
  • Memory
  • Behavioral and emotional functioning

Psychological testing can provide helpful information in a variety of situations, such as:

  • Trouble paying attention at school or at home
  • Development that is delayed or seems not to be typical
  • Changes in your children’s physical health affecting memory and learning
  • Emotional difficulties such as anxiety depression or angry outbursts that are impacting everyday life
  • Academic struggles and or concerns that children or adolescents are not performing up to their potential
